Intuition and Decision Making: Have No Self Doubt

We constantly make everyday decisions per Philip Howard. We are very efficient. But what I think is, when in doubt, we cross- check with others to make sure we are doing the right thing especially if the decision carries weighty impact to safeguard against missteps. But what I realize is those we choose to ask for help come with their own baggage, don’t always have a trained mind to “see all aspects” and give their best. Family cultures, personal values and life experiences vary extensively despite being wonderful humans. There is a reason for why you ask after what you think- You are simply looking for validation. Following others’ thoughts may be like wearing someone else’s clothes. End of the day, we must filter in and out all that does or does not make sense. I am beginning to firmly believe that our rich experiences inform us and serve us well. We have our unique fingerprint of thoughts and emotions that emerge as a combined wisdom. Be bold! Be courageous! Instincts are real, intuition is nothing but scientific components of our complex blend of thinking and feeling made simplified.

Here is another secret! Overthinking on your own with excessive back-office rumination tends to deplete the richness of who you are or who you can be! You can be your own worst enemy. One thing I noticed is, both aspects- grabbing others’ advice without sizing it up yourself or your own worrisome analytical thinking (regardless of how good you are in perceptions) stumps you from being the best YOU. Additionally, if you display your excessively detailed thinking, it puts off people from being comfortable around you.

Your predominant prefrontal cortex (PFC) along with resting- state brain network is engaged in mindfulness with sort of blank mind; But then, disassembling intuitive mind means, when you need to make decisions, the rich emotional and cognitive connectivity of all of the brain machinery including PFC and subcortical systems like amygdala and hippocampus work together informing each other in the right proportions. Denying that there should be no emotional influence on cognitions for good reasoning is denying ourselves the wholesome brain function that generates a beautiful symphony of thinking, feeling, empathy, and problem-solving. Don’t shoe away emotions, simply reframe the thinking. Let’s believe in our authentic selves and be bold in embracing our everyday decisions effortlessly and with conviction!  How about frequenting the mindset with the golden triad- positivity, gratitude, and the untethered pure “YOU.”
